Undergraduate Studies

Our programs provide the flexibility you need, allowing students to pick and choose between traditional and fully online classes, with opportunities to engage in a wide variety of research, both taking place in key areas in South Florida and across the world.  The Department of Geosciences offers undergraduate degree programs leading to a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) or a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) with a concentration in either Geography, Geology, or Climate Change. Students can also choose from minors in Geography, Geology, and Geographic Information Science (GIS), and Certificate Programs in GIS. Descriptions of degree tracks and requirements follow. A grade of “C” or better is required in all courses taken in the department that are part of the minimum degree requirements. The University’s foreign language graduation requirement for B.A. and B.S. degrees must also be met.

Erika Moylan is an FAU alumnus who graduated in Spring 2018 with her B.A. in Geology with a minor in GIS and an Advanced GIS certificate. For two years now, Erika has been a Geographer 1 with the South Florida Water Management District in West Palm Beach, FL.

Scholarships

The Department of Geosciences, College of Science, and Florida Atlantic University offer a wide range of scholarship and award opportunities for undergraduate students in the geosciences. These are based on financial need, diversity, and scholarly achievement. Scholarships specifically for graduating seniors in Palm Beach County Schools or transfer students from Palm Beach State College are also available.
